Egrets

Four panel comic. Panel 1: at the entrance to the Arthur & TerryAnn Wetland Preserve next to their big-box store, TerryAnn says to Arthur “But I thought thos data centers were just for CHATGPT and whatever Jeff Bezos is up to.” He replies, “If the centers are close enough to the action, they can help ICE and SWAT pick out the bad guys. Gets around that due-process mumbo jumbo.” Panel 2: Arthur says “With our stores positioned along highways and in major urban areas, it's like being next to the salt lick for illegals and trouble makers.” View of map showing the wetlands preservers between their store and a highway, with Walnut Creek running through the edge of the wetlands and dense building on the other side of the highway. Panel 3: TerryAnn throws up her skinny arms and says “What about that red tape protecting the wetlands, Arty? And the City's new “sustainable community” project?” Arthur looks relaxed and amused, saying “That's the beauty of being in bed with the Feds. Say “national security” and BOOM, nobody cares about the egrets.” Panel 4: Arthur says “Granddaddy did the same thing when he milked the EPA.” TerryAnn replies “I'll never forget him saying he got a hundred dollars a frog for protecting swamps no one else would build on.” Arthur says, “If we can pull this off, the old bastard will smile down on us from Heaven.” The panel shows a closeup of a green frog sheltering under a rock, saying “Croak croak.”
