Cheap

Four-panel comic. Panel 1: Strikers in a picket line protest in front of an Arthur and Terry Ann big box store. Their signs say "We Want Fair Pay" and "Safe Jobs Now." Someone with a bullhorn shouts "No Contract? No Peace!" The twins Arthur and Terry Ann look at the store from the parking lot. Terry Ann shakes her fist as she says "Arty, I can't believe the ingratitude of those employess trying to unionize. They are A&TA family!" Arthur responds, "Yeah, Granddaddy hired some of their grands decades ago." Panel 2: Terry Ann says "It's not our fault that the minimum wage hasn't gone up since 2009." Arthur says, "Well, it sort of is. Granddaddy was good to the politicians who keep it stable. But we won't have to worry about that much longer." The panel shows a smiling mother bending down to hold her son's face. He holds her arm and smiles back. They look wholesome and happy. In the background, a protest sign for "Fair Wages" is propped up against the A&TA building by a line of shopping carts. Panel 3: Terry Ann says excitedly "You bringing in robots, Big Brother?" He says "Ha! You're actually close. What if instead of seeing our names on stores selling cheap stuff to cheap people ..." Panel 4: "... They were on shiny new data centers, staffed with just a few techies, and keeping our country safe and strong?" We see a close-up of his phone with an image of a huge building with the A&TA logo and colors. Just three cars are in the small parking lot. Terry Ann exclaims "Oh Arthur! How?!?" He says, "Two words: federal contracts and national security."
